Dental Veneers

What are Dental Veneers?

These are either a laminated or shell type tooth material. These are put at the front surface of your tooth to help give your teeth a better look. These are similar to false fingernails that women tend to use, but these are for your teeth to make them look nicer.

Problems Which Could Lead To Having One

If you have teeth that are stained by eating or drinking things with strong colourings in them, then you will think that you can just get your teeth whitened. But you’re wrong, your teeth cannot look healthier by getting them whitened, so then you will have to have a type of veneer put on it either porcelain, ceramic or composite bonding material to help give you a better look.  Another problem which could occur is a damaged tooth.  Your teeth can easily become damaged with all the constant grinding that you may have or by drinking fizzy drinks.  The chips that you may have in your teeth can be repaired, with small chips it will be a easy process putting a composite bonding material on, where as larger ones such as your whole tooth will have to be a porcelain process.  Also having gaps between your teeth can easily be fixed with a veneer.

Length of Time They Last

Depending on the type on veneer that you have put in place depends on the time it will survive.  The porcelain veneer will last a lot longer than the composite one, porcelain tend to last around 4 to 5 years where as the composite only last around a year or two.  But, it may not last the time that is suggested as the veneers may become loose and fall out, which then you have to have another veneer put in to place.  If the veneer does fall out then you are advised to keep it and take to the dentist when your appointment is due.

The cost of veneers can vary depending on where you have them done.  In the UK the Porcelain veneers are normally known to cost between £550 to £650, remembering that each veneer is custom made to fit your tooth and also fitted with great care.  The veneer normally costs around £290.
